Question
(1) Structure and function are related in the various organ systems of animals. For each of the two systems (digestive and respiratory), discuss the structure and function of two adaptations that aid in the transport or exchange of molecules (or ions). Be sure to relate structure to function in each example.(1) Structure and function are related in the various organ systems of animals. Explanation / Answer
structure of digestive system and transport or exchange of molecules;
digestive system is the mainly responsible for the digestion of food partcles and converted into energy and another main important function is absorption of certain molecules by the blood .
digestive system starts with mouth ,oesophagus ,stomach , small intestine , large intestine stomach helps in hydrolysis of the food with the help of HCL , then in small intestine contains the enzymes which are produced by the pancreas.small intestine consists of 3 parts deodenum which help in continous break down of molecules and ileum and jejeum helpsd in absorption of food or water .large intestine consists of colon and rectum , anus . colon is responsible for the absorption of any water molecules from the waste it helps in bowel movements .
respiratory system ;
involves the purification of blood involves the exchange of gases between alveoli of lungs and blood and carbon dioxide . it gets the oxgen or carbondioxide from the blood it is called pulmonary respiration
the relation between the respiratory and digestive system ;
without the oxgen digestive system cannot process the food and produce energy as stomach uses the muscular contractions which is given by the respiratory system . respiratory system the contraction of respiratory sytem through the diaphram and intercaostal muscle also require energy , which will get from the digestive products such as carbohydrate , proteins breakdown .chloride shift also phenomenon where the chloride ions and hco3 ions permebility between the plasma memberane of RBC cells
