Explanation / Answer

According to Edmunds (1998) the Leadership Skills Inventory was designed to assist students at the upper-elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels in analyzing the strength of their leadership skills. In taking the Skills Inventory there were eighteen statements that you have to read and score yourself from 1 to 5 where one means not true and a five means strongly agree. In reading the eighteen statements I received the following scores: a thirty in the technical skill category, which in essence means that I like to work on aspects within the company that have a technical aspect to it. I scored a twenty eight in the human skill category which means that I have people skills and like to be able to interact with people and that I take other peoples feelings into the equation in looking at a company and what may or may not be happening. I scored a twenty nine in the conceptual skill category which means that I enjoy working with abstract ideas, seeing the big picture, have an interest in organizational problems, creating mission statements, and thinking about organizational values and philosophies.

According to the skills inventory, the scoring range for the categories are as follows: 23-30 within the high range, 14-22 is in the moderate range and 6-13 falls within the low range. So each of my results falls within the high range which means that I would be a person that would be considered a versatile person to have within an organization because I could operate on the lower management, the middle management or the upper management level with relative ease, because I am strong in each category. Personally, I am a hands-on type of a person and I feel most comfortable at the middle management level because of that ability that I possess in being able to work with the technical and human aspect of an organization. That is not to say that I am not successful at the upper management level, however, I am able to diversify my skills enough to be comfortable in each position, because I really feel that in order to be successful at the top of the organization, it is important to know each of the levels within the organization so that you have a better understand of what each employee is responsible for and so that you can be sympathetic when difficult situations arise and the upper management has to get involved in order to get the best end result.

I can utilize this information as I continue to grow and develop my business and have leaders within my organization, so that as my employees advance through the ranks within the company, we are not just building a company form the ground up, but we are building a legacy for future generations to be able to live out their American Dream. In order to truly be a successful leader, you must first be a good listener and then a great leader will develop, because if employees are trying to explain to the leadership how to better perform a specific job and they do not listen, the company may be losing productivity and that means that the company may be losing money.
