Project managers are essential to the success of any Project, they are in charge of making sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing.
A good project manager usually is involved in more than 1 project, therefore he needs the ability to multi task and track different problems on a daily basis, and this also means that he needs to be organized in order to complete all of his daily tasks.
They also have the responsibility to guide the teams on the correct direction, this means they need to be leaders and not only with the development team but also with the customers or stakeholders of the project.
Being part of a project also means you need to communicate with all the involved parties, and this communication needs to be effective, you don’t have to take 2 hours of your day to create a conference call or to meet with customers, there are many times you can just send an email, or do a 10 minute webinar with updates, this is also important for a project manager.
Problems will come on every project, if there isn’t any problem then you are missing them or you are the problem. I had the experience to work with a project manager who would send me an email at 6am every day asking me this: Where are the problems? There are problems we can’t control but what we do with them is different, we don’t need to avoid them, we need to act and solve them as soon as possible.
