Question

There is a lack of spirituality in a person that cheats because they do not trust in their abilities to get the job done correctly, but also they do not respect the teacher, nor have the faith in the institution. When I was a child (7 years old) my best friend asked me to help him with his homework. I did half of his math assignment while he did the other half. We did this because we wanted to go outside and play and we couldn’t until he finished his work. His mother caught us because we wrote our number 8 differently. She reported her son to her teacher and told my mother. We were in big trouble, but it was an important moment in both of our lives because we learn a valuable lesson that I still carry with me today. I have tough question for you. What would you do if you knew one of your classmates was cheating, what could or would you do about it?

Explanation / Answer

It's an honor code violation.

When facing such scenarios, what matters is what you value the most.

What matters most? Your friend or your values?

I myself, consider honesty to be one of the most important values that could exist.

I knew my classmate wasnt being honest with himself. I like to believe he came to respect me for that. If a friend of mine cheated and boasted then I would confront him. I would give him the opportunity to confess (In hindsight, it's something I should have done for my classmate). If such friend didn't confess, I would try to find another way for my friend to face the consequences of his acts by himself.

If all else fails, I would gather any evidence I could and definitely expose his dishonesty. I certainly don't want to lose a friend, but I wouldn't be able to respect myself if I didn't stay true to my values.
