Question
Kamal's Roti Factory makes Rotis and delivers them to various restaurants and delis around Brooklyn. The production plant made 200,000 Rotis last week. The production plant operates 7 days a week with two 8 hour shifts per day and was designed to produce the basic one-filling Roti at the rate of 2,000 per hour.
a. How many one-filled Roti is the production plant capable of making per week?
b. A new store opened in the neighborhood and wants a special double filled Roti. Kamal's production line can make it, but only at the rate of 1000 per hour. The new store requires 15,000 of the special double filled Roti per week. Will Kamal's be able to supply the new order?
Explanation / Answer
(a)in one week there are 7 days,2 shifts ,8 hrs per shift therefore total no. of hours available
= 7x2x8 =112 hours per week
productio per hour =2000
total production capability per week =112 x2000= 224000 one-filled Roti
(b)total lost in production 224000-200000=24000
i.e 12 hours of production are lost
now for new order they will require 15000/1000 = 15 hours to produce but they have only 12 so they would not be able to fulfill the new order on time.
