A multiple hurdle process that you went through is very common hiring practice and it does have an inherent long time frame from beginning to end. I like your recommendation about ways in which to improve the selection and hiring process. Organizations are doing more due diligence in deciding who would be the most suitable candidates for several reasons. One is the cost of making a bad hire. Second is the investment cost of employing a person can range with salary plus 40% of the salary for benefits/training/ and development. Third would be to have sufficient valid selection methods to defend against unlawful hiring. The challenge that you raise about the time frame for multiple hurdles which would have added the drug, background and reference checking for external applicants would extend the decision time frame. Is it worth it for the organization to go through the full multiple hurdle process with the risk of viable candidates losing interest in the position? Did you find the organizations that hired you used more subjective or objective information in their hiring decision? Any concerns about this? Did you feel you knew what the job entailed and what it would be like to work for this organization during the selection process? Any concerns here? The selection process for any job is awefully long these days with many rounds to be cleared and many answers to be given. Companies are stating various reasons such as qulaification verifications and drug tests and safety measures as reasons for these long durations. However many procedures they follow are our of the actual requirements for the job. Any job we aplly will have a written exam which contains questions which are not at all related to the job or does any good for the condidates. After we clear these tests we face interviews which are done by a panel which is a decent process where they check the information provided by us. These are required to be done because many cases of people coming drunk to office, drug delas in offices, harassments etc., are coming into light and hence companies have the right to test the candidates.

Many companies are doing great job witht heir selection procedures except some rounds like written exams where no relevant questions ar ebeing asked which is just for the sake of filtration which can be done by giving questions fromthe subject. This gives much more interest to the candidates to compete for the position.
