Taking the chosen organisation as Facebook , let us talk about the implementation of the goal setting theory there. The goal setting theory involves setting realistic, measurable, tangible and challenging roles for the employees.

The golas that are set by the organisation's board of directors trickles down in the form of priorities to the layers further downwards in the organisation. The major expected impact is to support the vision and the mission of the organisation along with offering the expected or more than expected returns to the shareloders. Hence goal setting theory helps managers set SMART ( specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound) goals for their teams. The employees are motivated to work towards a defined direction for achieveing the overall goal of the organisation and feel involved in building and developing Facebook as a much smarter and larger organisation.

The disadvantages of the goal setting theory could be that it build tension in the sytstem when conflicting goals are setup in the system. For Example: A team working to enhance the profits as their core goal, faces conflict which is looking at increasing the headcount as the goal. The increase in headcount is conflicting the other team;s goal owing to the nature of raising the cost and hence bringing down the net income. Thus the two teams work for the larger aim of building Facebook, however their goals are conflicting in nature.
