This unit’s discussion will let you post your idea for your final report, think about the kinds of sources you may need to complete that report, and get some feedback in advance of the formal proposal for that project that is due Sunday.

The organization that I have chosen to write for is the Intelligence Squadron I currently work for. I’ve been working for this organization for three years. The problem within the organization that I will address is communication within leadership and employee empowerment. I feel that solving this problem is detrimental to the organization because most problems can be fixed if leadership communicated them appropriately throughout the squadron. When leadership withholds information or jumps and tells one person about a situation and does not include everyone with a need to know it causes unnecessary dysfunction and wasted man hours with employees scrambling to get to the bottom of an issue or when it is time to schedule special events getting everyone to be there to support. Leadership is the backbone of employee empowerment because micromanaging signals that there are trust issues which can lead to many hands being in the pot. I have also seen where employees who are not empowered are hindered in making decisions causing undue stress and rushing around to fix a mess that could have been prevented had the right decisions been made.
The primary audience for this report is people who like to take leadership roles or are already in leadership roles. I feel the secondary audience needs to be lower level workers so they can see and began to understand how to treat employees as they are coming up in their respective careers. The kinds or types of research sources that I think I will need to help write my report is academic journals that address effective leadership, skills that leaders and managers need as well as sources that give tips and information on empowering a workforce effectively.
Explanation / Answer
In my views, the scope of the project is quite narrow and can be extended. The communication problem within leadership can be more about maintaining transparency across the organization. The employees have full right to know about the policies and procedures of the company as well as the interventions undertaken. Also maintaining transparency will build better bond and trust between the employees and management. This scope will be better addressed in the 10-page report. Also the scope of employee empowerment can be extended to employee engagement and talent management. This will be able to better address the problems of the company.
