Explanation / Answer
a) HIS or hospital information system has become quite critical for effective and efficient working of the overall healthcare sector. The Healthcare providers are the major actors in the revenue cycle for a medical practice. HIS will be effective in the following aspects of healthcare:
b) USA’s healthcare crisis comprises the following issues:
The USA is considered one of the major markets in the healthcare segment. With uncertainty in the healthcare policies of the USA, the globalization rate of health care segment has subsided.
In order to reduce the healthcare costs, in my views, the healthcare will have to take a major step in the future. The action steps taken by the healthcare providers will decide the role of healthcare in future. USA healthcare providers and policy makers need to research about the scope of single payer system, the one implemented in Canada. They need to check the feasibility of such system in USA. Single payer system might be able to reduce the rate of the rising healthcare cost in the country, as the load on citizens of the heavy premiums will be considerably reduced. Healthcare will become affordable, thus increasing coverage and reducing inequalities in the healthcare system. Single-payer system will be a big positive change in the American market.
HIS will facilitate the integration of single payer system in the country. HIS will also help in maintaining patient privacy through the access management controls. Access management controls are incorporated in the Healthcare industry to protect the patient’s data from any kind of cyber attack. Access management controls monitor the patient’s data and limit accessibility of information. These access restrictions require user authentication at various layers. Also these control mechanisms block any suspicious data activity over the healthcare network. Web uploads and data attachment is strictly monitored through these mechanisms. Access management controls are totally inclined to work for the data sanctity and protection of patient’s information.
c) Laws under HIPAA and HITECH clearly mandate that the protection of patients’ health information is critically important. Trust and rapport must be maintained between the practitioner and the patient. Clear communication lines must flow in the hospital about which data is confidential and which can be shared. Patient’s health information is crucial and should be treated with utmost confidentiality norms, unless there is an emergency. The practitioners and the health care staff must be aware of this and the consequences of breaching the same. HIS will help in the integration of all such systems and establish clear communication lines through them. The government needs to allot specific punitive measures against such kind of violations.
d) The evolving customers are becoming quite knowledgeable and aware. The integration of HIS in healthcare will cater to the following needs of the consumers:
