Question

1.     Describe Predetermined Motion Time Systems. Include in your answer the task hierarchy level (think: pyramid) that the technique applies to

2.     Describe a work scenario where you think Predetermined Motion Time Systems would be the preferred method of work measurement.

3.     Describe the steps suggested by Groover (2007) when using a Predetermined Motion Time System.

4.     Unlike Direct Time Study, a performance rating for Predetermined Motion Time Systems is not needed. Why? Is a performance rating ever needed?

5.     Describe the category of Predetermined Motion Time Systems called Methods-Time Measurement (MTM). Include in your definition what MTM-1 refers to within the MTM family of work measurement tools.

Explanation / Answer

1.

Predetermined Motion Time Systems: It is work measurement method to analyze the human effort for a perticular task to complete one cycle. All the study of work should be update in sheet with time observed. Basically this method of study the time for any prescribed method. Method should be predefined or standard. The detailed method of work procedure is studied and analyses then time is calculated.

Please note some of common or repeatetive process is predefined with standard time.

Some of the standard time of motion and work are predetermined. For this It always use the standard designated time for each process while study the motion.

Hierarcy Level:

--Job

--Task

--work process

2. Any assembly line where some commpon product are assemblem frequently. when all the process are nearly similar. So we use some predetermined standard for motion and work study. A mobile assembly line is a example where we can use this method. All mobile assembly are almost similar expect some minor changes productwise.

3. Grovver given the concept which is alternate to direct time study in which performance rating factor is not included.

A basic datasheet is available in which include all manual common work procedure time.

Some of the common process like pick, drop, put, & VI include in this list.

All the common work activity include in this list with standard time.

4.

For predetermined motion time system performance rating factor is not required because It already include standard time in PMTS. Standard time always included performance rating factor of the operators.

Performance rating factor always required for normal time study where every process studied by stop watch.
