The ability to cultivate this knowledge and use it to make practical decisions is becoming mission-critical at most firms. In this week’s discussion, we will be examining the role of knowledge workers in collecting and communicating this information as well as examining how a specific data-based decision could be made.

How do information systems provide support for knowledge workers? If you were the President of A University, how would the various types of Decision-support Systems (DSS) help you make better decisions?
Do you think that you would be looking at the surveys that completed by students at the end of each course? In the course of your discussion, be sure to distinguish between an unstructured, semi-structured, and structured decisions.

There are many types of DSS (Decision-support Systems) which can help you make better decisions in different scenarios as the President of a University. The various types of Decision-support Systems (DSS) help you make better decisions are:
a) Communication-driven DSS - This type of DSS targets the internal teams in the university, targeting the users to collaborate using the communication.
b) Data-driven DSS - The Data-driven DSS targets the university and the employees and students to know much about the data that is used to seek the answers to the problems in the university.
c) Document-driven DSS - Documents related to the university will be obtained by using the Document-driven DSS, to search documents on a filter and search criteria. These documents should be relevant to the university staff or students.
d) Knowledge-driven DSS - This type of DSS is used for the knowlegde categories of which covers a broad system and users and takes into record the students interaction with the university employees and staff and to provide services or courses based on their discussions and knowlegde.
e) Model-driven DSS - This type of DSS is used when there are many options available and university staff and employees use it to analuze the decisions and used in scheduling, decision analyses etc in the university.
A structured decision is one which will have standard procedures and clear objective and also will clearly specify the inputs and output, thus there will be a procedure here whcih can be used to arrive at the best solution.
An unstructured decision is one where none of the decision making is structured and here the human mind also plays a role, in unstructured decision it can be that nothing is structured.
A semi-structured is a decision where some of the decision making is structured and some are unstructured, thus this is called semi-structured used in combination with structured and individual judgment.
Information systems provide support for knowledge workers in the areas of communication,handling data and important documents, and to improve their knowledge

ii)Data and document based
iii)model based
now here i will explain how each of these support systems help for a president of university
i)If I would be a president of a university ,communication based dss would help to keep all the members of the university connected.It helps to conduct meetings on matters related to university,with other important members of universities.
ii)Data and document based dss help in handling data in an database.These data can be student data,who are studing in university,Using these we can get all the information about any student studying or staff or others in university immididiately for some purposes.Document based are helpful for storing data regarding a student,staffs, and also others things related to administraation and finanace.
ii)model based dss would help in making choices.They also help in making and taking important decisions related to the university.
yes I would be looking at surveys completed by students based on how I get the time.If that surveys become very important to the university in some matter ,then definitely I would go through those surveys
Structured decisions are the decisions which are straight forward and have a proper defined methodology to arrive at any solution .Usually these decisions are taken regularly.
Unstructured decisions are the decisions which depend on the knowledge and expertitise of the people.These decisions has to be taken suddenly.
Semi structured decisions come in between structured and unstructured decisions.They have the quality of both the types.
