2. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has been quoted as saying: “With the cloud, you don’t own anything. You already signed it away” (regarding the terms of service with a cloud provider to which computer users must agree). “I want to feel that I own things. A lot of people feel, ‘Oh, everything is really on my computer,’ but I say the more we transfer everything onto the [W]eb, onto the cloud, the less we’re going to have control over it.” Discuss your view, and consider the consequences of your point of view! Explanation / Answer

Answer)

First of all let's discuss Cloud computing. Cloud storage is a data storage mechanism or technology where the digital data is stored in logical pools which are in turn stored in physical data servers. We can now move business data for the systems to allow the customers to retrieve their electronic documents over the Internet using cloud. This will surely increase the product or application quality. The pros of using te cloud servers for storing data are:

Disaster recovery is improved in the cloud storage systems as data is always available to the customer and they can retrieve the data at any time of the day. Data backup is also done automatically.

The collaboration and flexibility of data is also there in cloud storage. Real time updates can be shared in real time with the customers, which maybe synced across devices.

Cloud computing is also pocket friendly as we do not have to maintain physical servers in our company and we can buy as much as we need.

But among many cons of cloud computing there are some issues which we may face presently and in the future. As the cloud service provider serves us by storing our data on the cloud, it has access to all our data in the cloud. Thus according to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, the terms of service with a cloud provider to which computer users must agree, in some cases and most cases, controlled by the cloud service provider. Thus when we transfer everything onto the web, onto the cloud, the less we’re going to have control over it.

The above is True to my knowledge as when we are uploading content to the cloud, certain terms and conditions of the service provider may deem that, everything is on their server thus their content. We may argue about it and so on. But reality is we have more control when data is physically present on the computer rather than on the cloud uploaded. Thus we can access data online but privacy and reuse of the content is a question and we seemingly have much less control when the content is in cloud. The consequences would be a problem since trust issues would be there between cloud consumers and providers as people would not feel comfortable to upload if they don't have control over it. Thus, cloud providers should check and update the terms of conditions such as consumers have full control and ownership of their content on the cloud.
