Question
A. The trust required to successfully conduct an interview may be difficult to
achieve under certain circumstances. If honest answers to difficult questions may
have repercussions for your interviewees, they might be less than forthcoming.
If you were interested in developing a tool that would encourage teens to pay for
downloading music rather than illegally trading copyrighted songs, you might
consider interviewing teens to understand their attitudes and practices. However,
they may be reluctant to share information with you, for fear that their parents
would learn of any inappropriate activity that they have been involved in. As
parental consent is likely to be required for the participation of underage teens,
these concerns are not necessarily invalid. How might you build trust with these
teens? How might you evaluate their comments to determine whether they are
being truthful?
B. The development of a tool to encourage teens to pay for downloaded music
presents some challenges in data gathering. If teens are using home computers
for potentially inappropriate activities, parents may feel that they have a
legitimate interest and concern in what their children are doing. To better
understand the problem, you might decide to interview parents as well
as teens. Would you interview them separately or together? What sort of
questions would you ask parents and how would they differ from questions
that you might ask of teens? Would you use one-to-one interviews or focus
groups? Why?
C. Interviews can become awkward if the interviewees start asking difficult
questions about the research. Imagine you are interviewing hospital equipment
repair technicians about their practices for recording their workflow, including
repairs completed, time spent on each repair, and related tasks. What should
you do if the workers' concern for their job security leads them to ask tough
questions about why the data is being collected and what it will be used for?
If you know that management is trying to collect data that might be used
to raise expectations and workload or to reduce staff, what should you tell
the technicians? How can you resolve your responsibility to the client (the
management) who is paying the bills, while showing appropriate respect for the
workers you are interviewing?
Explanation / Answer
A. While interviewing teens regarding the illegal trading copyright songs so that we can develop a tool to stop this illegal activity and make a pproper process to download music. While interacting with the teens initially they fear to express their view before the media as this can become a sensational issue. We have to develop a friendly nature with them as well as we have to ensure about their security and family prestage to open up their mouths. As a number of songs come everyday, the teen who dont have enough money may cant afford to pay for every song or even cant ask money to their parents. This is the main comment of the teens. We can also ask questions like a)Why do you provoke to download music illegally? b)Dont you think you can be caught and punished severely? c)do you ue any technological features to do so? d)What do you tthink can be done to resolve these problems?.As the technology is enormously increasing there are also ways to download music from the copyrighted songs without the need to pay.So we can develop a tool such that whenever any individual tries to get a song illegally downloaded ,a notification is generated in the software and immediately some fine can be sent to the particular person.Once this tool starts its play then automatically this illegal proces may decrease.
B. Interaction with the parents is also an important way to understand this issue and get conclusions which may help to resolve this issue. We cannot make the teens and parents to sit together for the interview,as it may lead to family disturbances. We can interview the parents so that they can understand the present problem and make their children to choose the correct path. Some of the uestions which can be asked to the parents are: a) Do you know about the illegal miatskes done by your children? b) As mostly everything is done inside your house in your computer, do you support them? c)Are your children correct in doing so or they need to pay,What do you say? d)If this issue goes viral and necessary actions are to be taken,Would u support goverment? e) Do you think of any better alternative to resolve this issue?
C. While interviewing the hospital equipment repair technicians we may have some questions regarding their practices and their workflow and also their schedules. They may not answer the questions for the fear of their job.As they are daily workers they may think about the loss of their job if they give any confidential data unknowingly. We should be able to ensure them about their job security and also ensure them them that this interview is only for records basis which doesnot lead to any problem. If we are from the management side and are interviewing the workers to know about the work status and workload so that base on the information the mangement can reduce the staff if necessary. In this situation we need to be a bit careful so that we are trusty to the management and also in he same way faithful to the workers. We may ask them questions and get data required and also can make necessary modifications so that the result of the collected data should not reduce the staff and make them homeless. We can also ask their problems and make it a notice to the management.By doing this the relations may be better and have a good working conditions which may ultimately lead to the development of the hospital.
