Question
As a sales manager for a major pharmaceuticals company, you've been asked to promote a new drug that costs $2,500 per dose. You've read the reports saying that the drug is only 1 % more effective than an alternative drug that costs $625 per dose The VP of sales wants you to promote the $2,500 per dose drug aggressively. Q1. What would you do? And Why? Q2. The textbook discusses 5 frameworks for ethical decision-making. Among the 5 different approaches, which one would best justify your action described in your answer to Q1.Explanation / Answer
I would present both options factually and let my client to make the decision because not everyone could afford to pay for the $2,500 per dose drug. I would differentiate the pros and cons of each drug clearly, so that my clients knew which drug is suitable for them. Also, different people may have different opinion towards this “1% drug effectiveness.” People who think 1% increase in the drug’s effectiveness was crucial and important, I would recommend them to purchase the new drug.
