For over two decades, the alignment between Information Management (IM) and Information systems (IS) strategy has consistently been ranked amongst the top IS and business management concerns. Information management entails the process of managing information as a strategic resource for improving organizational performance.
In this paper, you are expected to reflect on the problem of IS-IM strategy alignment, examine the implications of (mis)alignment for organizational performance, and explore the relationship between the alignment concept and complementary concepts (e.g. IS capability, Data, knowledge management) and practices (e.g. strategic IM planning, business strategy, knowledge management strategy).

Information management and information system are two very important aspects of the business organization. Because information is focussed which enables in formulating a successful strategy and having a sustainable advantage over the competitors as well. Informations system helps this information to be collected, organized and can be reused when required. It is very necessary to provide the right information to the right person and that too at the right time as well. There are many problems associated with the alignment of information management and system because one is concerned with the strategy and other is how to deliver what is required which puts the burden on the technical part as of how it is going be align with the strategy part. When companies are building products and strategy around the product about customer data for acquisition, retention, the technical part of the performing this strategy is sometimes overlooked and when it is seen at the later part, things get messed up because both the strategy and technical part has moved on to an advanced stage and now changing direction from that stage is a tedious or near impossible tasks which impacts the overall business goals and objectives of the company. Different practices of knowledge management which help to build the strategic vision of the company along with designing the business of strategy needs to be aligned with the capabilities of an information system, as to how the data is converted into useful information to help the management It depends how lots of data which is available with the company can be utilized to give important insights and whether these insights are about the customers, employees, market analysis or information about the working environment as well. There should be complete harmony among both the process of making strategies for the company and about the information required for the reaching these strategies.
