Present or absent bit used to tell whether a particular page you are looking for is present or absent. If it is not present, that is called Page Fault. It is set to 0 if the corresponding page is not in memory. And is set to 1 if it is available in memory. If a page is not in memory than we have to bring it to the memory from secondary storage
