Question

Hi,

Electronic communication has exploded in the last decade. It seems like everyone has a need always to be connected with everyone else whether they are sending email, talking on the cell phone, or connecting via Facebook.

Unfortunately, not all of these communication events are positive (either to those involved or those around the key players). Looking at the rules of etiquette that surround electronic communications.

Think about ways you have experienced (been a part of, seen, or heard about) inappropriate behavior with cell phone use, email, or social networking sites.

Choose one incident. What were etiquette rules violated? How could the situation have been improved if the etiquette rules had been followed?

Summarize the incident. Explicitly list the etiquette rules that were violated, and then summarize your analysis of what would have happened if the rules had been followed.

This should be minimum of 300 words include:

- Discuss your opinions on the topic

- Support your opinions and statements with logical arguments

- Include you insights on What Can Be Done to improve written communication skills.

Explanation / Answer

Social Media Etiquette rules

Netiquette is a set of unofficial rules for good behavior and politeness followed by users of online and digital technologies such as the Internet, email, and chatrooms.

Netiquette is derived from the word "etiquette," which refers to the general rules or conventions of correct and polite behaviour in social settings and situations. It is thus the practice of exercising polite and considerate behaviour in online contexts, such as Internet discussion boards and personal email.

Important to establish rules that will help your teen make healthy choices.

Create a Behavior Contract

Once you've established clear cellphone rules, create a behavior contract. Include the rules and the consequences your teen will experience for breaking any of the rules.

You also might include what will happen if your teen loses her phone, breaks it, or incurs data overage charges.

Then, have your teen review and sign the contract. That way, you'll know she is clear about your expectations and any restrictions you might impose if she violates the rules.
