Side Note: I knew the universe would reward me for rewatching Office a hundred times.
As a Consultant to Dunder Mifflin, I would first analyze the events that occurred around the Christmas Party.
The Root Cause of Michael’s Behavior is because of guilt of firing Devon and receiving a $3,000 Bonus check from corporate because of this incident. It is clear that Michael wants everyone to like and respect him. Here is where the Value of the person OB concept comes into play. Which states that every employee want to be treated with respect, dignity and other things from their employee
As a Consultant, I would give Michael the following suggestions to be a better Regional Manager
Firing People is a part of his job Description and he was just doing his job he should not have any guilt due to this. Even if he wanted to do something nice for the employees he could have brought something collectively (Something other than the Liquor) this is where the concept of Motivated behavior comes Some motivations are necessary to enrich the quality of work.
In Conclusion, I would recommend Michael to adhere to rules of secret Santa next time and also he doesn’t have to try too hard to be the liked by everyone, he is clearly a great salesman and a wonderful boss.
Hope this helps
