Explanation / Answer
what is DNS?
Domain Name System (or Service or Server), which is an
Internet service which translates domain names into the IP addresses.
Because the domain names are alphabetic, they are very easier to remember.
The Internet however, is exactly based on the IP addresses. Every time you tend to use a
domain name,a DNS service must translates the name into
the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name
www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4.
what is DNS footprinting?
The resolve.py script takes a domain name and provides the
SOA record, MX records, and NS records. It then attempts the zone transfer from each of the name servers and
then to brute forces DNS names
by using the provided word list. Next, it does a which is to lookup to find Network blocks
associated with any IP addresses found in the A and
AAAA records. Finally, it performs a reverse
lookup on all of the identified IP addresses and on the small network blocks.
what is dns deniel service of attack?
DNS flood is the type of the Distributed Denial of Service
(DDoS) attack in which the attacker targets one or more the Domain
Name System (DNS) servers belonging to the given zone,
attempting to hamper resolution of the resource records of
that zone and its sub-zones
what is dns pollution?
the dns pollution is also called as dns poisoning.
DNS cache poisoning,
also known as the DNS spoofing, which is the type of attack that exploits most of the
vulnerabilities in the domain name system (DNS) and the ultimate aim is to divert the Internet
traffic away from the servers that are legitimate and towards fake ones. and also leads to many redirecting and advertisement pages
One of the reasons DNS poisoning
is too dangerous is because it can spread from the one DNS server to the another DNS server.
In 2010 a DNS poisoning event resulted in the Great Firewall of China
temporarily escaping China’s national borders, censoring the Internet
in the USA until the problem was fixed.
List two important security requirements for protecting a DNS zone transfer.?
Domain Names System (DNS) is a vital and critical component of the Internet. Users often do not know anything about DNS, but they definitely use it every time they are on the Internet. DNS is the mechanism that translates IP address 192.168.1.200 to a name www.somewhere.com and vice versa. It is much easier for someone to remember a name such as www.somewhere.com than an IP address. Electronic mail, web browsing, ftp, and any other Internet related applications rely on DNS.
