any help would be appreciated..

1) Cart #1 of mass m1 moves to the right with velocity v1 and collides with a stationary cart #2 of mass m2. The carts do not stick together after the collision. Describe below what happens to the velocities of the carts after the collision for the following three cases: m1 < m2, m1 = m2, m1 > m2.

2) Cart #1 (1 kg) with velocity v1 collides with a stationary cart #2 (1 kg) and the carts stick together after the collision (i.e. perfectly or completely inelastic collision). What is the final velocity vf of the

combined carts if v1 = 2 m/s?

Explanation / Answer

1) v1' < v1

v2' > v2

2) Conserving linear momentum

Inital momentum = 2kgm/s

Final momentum = 2*v = 2

=> final velocity = v = 1m/s
