Question
1) I thought that the equation for complete destructive interference for diffraction from a single-slit was d sin?=(m+1/2)?, where m = 0, 1, 2, ... but that was the wrong answer. Could someone explain why? And would the correct answer be d sin?=m?, where m = 1, 2, 3, ...?
2) (If you have two diffraction gratings A and B with 100 lines/mm and 200 lines/mm respectively and you shine a monochromatic light on these two gratings, the first order finge produced appears at angle of 4 degrees for grating A and 8 degrees for grating B.)<-- Background information
Explain how you would calculate the angle of the first fringe if you shone the same light at double-slit with a separation d = 0.1 mm instead of diffraction gratings like A and B.
3) Based on the patterns below, state whether it's a diffraction from a single slit, two slit interference, or diffraction from grating and provide reasoning.
Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
1) no for destuctive given by m lambda = d sin theta
2) so for first d = 1mm/100 = 0.01 mm
so this ten times smaller thanA
so angle = .4 degrees
3) first since the central max is twice as wide single slit
second evently space and dies off slowly grating
