Question

Suppose an "infinitely long" wire carrying current I = 631 runs through the center of an "infinitely long" square coil, side a = 6.24 cm, n = 90.2 turns/cm and carrying current I = 621 A. (?o = 1.26x10-6 H/m)

Suppose an "infinitely long" wire carrying current I = 631 runs through the center of an "infinitely long" square coil, side a = 6.24 cm, n = 90.2 turns/cm and carrying current I = 621 A. (muo = 1.26 Times 10-6 H/m) Find: the magnitude of the force exerted by the coil on each meter of the wire: the magnitude of the force exerted by the wire on each meter of the coil:

Explanation / Answer

magnetic field at the cnetre of square coil is B = n u0i * 2sqrt2/(Pi a)

So B=90.2*4*6.24*1.26x10^-6*621*2*1.414/(3.14*0.0624)=25.42 T

So F/l=IB=631*25.42=16038 N/m

SO the magnitude of force exerted by coil on each meter of wire=the magnitude of force exerted by wire on each meter of coil= 16038 N/m
