(a) immediately after the switch is closed (after being open a long time)...
...the current through the inductor ______
...the current through R2 ________
(b) a long time after the switch has been closed...
...the current through the inductor ______
...the current through R2 _______
(c) immediately after the switch is open (after being closed a long time)...
...the current through the inductor ______
...the current through R2 _______
(d) a time 1.01e-03 s after the switch is open....
...the current through the inductor ______
...the current through R2 ______
Explanation / Answer
a) when the switch is closed, initially inductor acts as open ckt.
current trough the inductor is Zero.
so, Rnet = R1 + R2 = 170 + 260 = 430 ohms
current through R2, i = V/Rnet = 10/430 = 0.023256 A
b) after a long time inductor acts short ckt.
Rnet = R1
current through the inductor, i = V/R1 = 10/170 = 0.0588 A
current through R2 is zero.
c)
when switch is open same current flows through the inductor and R2
current through inductor and R2 is 0.0588 A
d) Time constant, T = L/R2 = 0.202/170 = 1.188*10^-3 s
current through the inductor and R2 is same.
we know, i = Imax*e^(-t/T)
i = 0.0588*e^(-1.01/1.188)
= 0.02513 A
