Advancements in technology and the effects of technological change inevitably produces changes in social and cultural constructs. These effects are rarely equal or equitable. Reflecting upon your life, how has technology effected you? Have the effects been equal or equitable? Have you or someone you know been displaced? Has the effects of technological change created additional social and cultural tensions? Has resistance to technological advancement created tensions or adversity?

Think about these questions, reflect upon your experience and the readings in Chapter two

Explanation / Answer

1.Technology change and advancement is rapid and is getting inculcated into the fabrics of society and culture. People pay tribute to historical and religious monuments, temple etc. through video conferencing. There comes internet and cloud computing, Mobile and artificial intelligence is taking over many key roles that once needed human agency. Technology has affected me in the positive way. As a lawyer, I find it easier to research my case and find many articles using software tools. I use cloud computing, block chain for transaction etc. all beneficial for my life.

2.The effects are equitable and fair. That is the technology is contributing to making people life easy. Sometimes it’s being misused for various ulterior designs, sometimes it eats always job like that in case of automation. But doing the cost benefit analysis, technology is far more advantageous than it is expected of.

3.Yes, I had a friend working for a project got removed because the project he was working for got automation technology and there was no human need for that project.

4.The effects of technological change have certainly added social and cultural tensions but it has significantly improved the situation by bringing in global information at everyone’s hand through mobile and internet. People are getting aware of world events and leaders intention. People to people connection across country is increasing thus technology has both. Sometimes it creates tension while it adds a lot of advantage and values to culture and society.

5.Resistance to technological advancement anywhere in world has certainly created tensions and adversity as the world is now globally connected and people are fast equipping themselves with latest technology and its benefits. One who does not change with time and adopts to the present advancement will obviously be left behind and there will be issues that they will have to face if they don’t understand the significance of technology change.
