Male salamanders deposit spermatophores (mucus packets filled with sperm) on leaves, twigs, or the ground and guide females over them so females can take them up into their cloaca. These are also called sperm ampulla, it contains male gonads and released directly into the ovipore of females during reproduction. For example, 90% of all salamanders utilize spermatophores for internal fertilization. Hence, internal fertilization has grater reproductive value in Salamanders. But, few species like giant salamanders and Asiatic salamanders exhibit external fertilization instead internal.
