18. Two different ways an organization can improve an employee’s wellbeing are:

(i) Creating a comfortable work environment – Employee’s wellbeing can be improved by creating a comfortable and a relaxed work environment. Employees will benefit from initiatives like having indoor plants, a clutter free office and workstation, etc.

(ii) Realizing the importance of work-life balance - Employee’s wellbeing can be improved when organizations realize the importance of work life balance and taking steps to encourage employees to have a healthy work life balance. With progress in working styles organizations are encouraging employees to have flexible work schedules, take mandatory leaves and not work on weekends.

For example in a recent public interview Jeff Bezos of Amazon said that all employees of his company are encouraged to have a healthy work-life balance. Employees at Amazon are discouraged to make important decisions after 5 pm and are discouraged to work late nights and on weekends. The company believes that such a policy keeps their employees more motivated and more energized.
