Question
The question to answer from the report below: As communication on the Internet is essential. We have to select and fully justify the type of internet access you propose to have for this company. This must be scalable to allow for future growth and needs. The Point of Presence (POP) is located at the Perth CBD office.
note: Internet Access for the entire company, the Point of Presence (POP), is through the Perth CBD office. This connection should be sufficient for all current users, and scalable to allow for the expected increase over the next 3 years.
The report: is Coal Corporation is starting a mining operation 30km north of the town of Northram, Western Australia (hereafter referred to as remote site). Coal is also setting up an office in Perth CBD. Coal had tasked up with setting up their networks at both sites. Coal wants to set three local area networks (LANs) at their remote site. One network for the finance department, one network for the company executives and one network which provides anyone with company credentials ubiquitous connectivity in the area. The first two networks need to be secure. For their CBD offices, Coal requires four networks. Three networks are the same as for the remote site with an additional network for the sales department. There is also a server farm at the CBD site consisting of four servers. There needs to be a ‘fast’ connection between the CBD and remote sites. Coal is also exploring other mining projects. Therefore, Coal wants a network which allows for 30% expansion in the next three years.
Explanation / Answer
Whilst the actual lengths of media chosen are not required, the cost of media chosen should be included as a cost per metre price. We must justify our choice of media. Remember this might include copper, fibre and wireless options. 2. We are required to subnet the company’s network IPv4 address using VLSM as appropriate. We are required to provide summary tables with IP address ranges for all hosts in the network. When allocating addresses we must allow enough addresses for the 30% expected future expansion of hosts. As well, we need to allocate one (1) printer for each 50 computers (or part thereof) on the executive, sales and finance subnets. If there are, for example, 70 computers required on a subnet, then two printers are required for that subnet. Printers will have the last usable address/es for the subnet to which they belong. The servers will be located in a separate subnet, and must be allocated static IPv4 Addresses within that network. The number of servers is not expected to grow. We are not required to subnet the connection between Perth CBD and remote site. 3. Coal Corporation is anticipating a move to IPv6 in the future, and so needs to use a Dual Stack environment for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. We are required to address the network for IPv6. 4. We are required to detail the hardware (ONLY switches and routers) that the Coal Corporation will require. This must include full reasons for selecting particular hardware, which must be adequate for the Coal’s requirements. Again, consideration must be made with regard to future expansion and bandwidth requirements.
Coal Corporation has purchased the IP Address (Given by your Instructor) from its ISP for addressing all hosts within its network. Subnet, using VLSM, this IP Address to provide addresses for all required hosts. This addressing scheme should allow for the 30% expected growth
