The new computer will run a suite of programs that we can collectively refer to as P, and will improve upon M7 by accelerating a fraction fE of P by a factor fI = 4X using a coprocessor. Customers of XYZ Computer Corp. want the new machine M8 to have 70 percent greater performance than M7.
You must :
(a) Determine if this is possible
(b) What is the minimum fraction of P that needs to be accelerated by 4X to meet the customers’ system speedup requirement.

Solution:
In order to improve the performance with the limitation of increasing the only the factor p of the processor with fixed value of 4X
it is possible to achieve the 1.7 times better than M7
b)
suppose the value of the factor is x and it is increased 4 times
so
4x = 1.7
=> x = 1.7/4 = 0.425
