<h2 id="dpt1"><u> Computer Sc Dept</u> </h2>
Global Excellence and Local Relevance in research, teaching,
and technology development is the vision of the Department.
The Department was started as the Computer in 1973 with the
acquisition of an IBM 370, perhaps the most powerful computer in
India at that time. It offered M.Tech, M.S and PhD degree programmes.
In 1983, the B.Tech degree programme was started.

Today the Department has a vibrant student body numbering about
700. Over 60% are postgraduate, mostly supported by scholarships.
The Department also offers several attractive industry-sponsored
Fellowships for outstanding PhD scholars and liberally supports participation
in top-ranking international conferences. Over 50 full-time engineers work on R&D
projects enriching the academic environment.

<h2 id="dpt2"><u> Department of Mathematics </u> </h2>
The impressive tradition of the Department of Mathematics derives its roots from
the east which predates the formation of the post graduate department. Encompassed
within the tradition are names such as P.L.Bhatnagar, J.N.Kapur, A.N.Mitra, and B.R.Seth,
all of whom distinguished themselves by their teaching and research and who later carved
out major roles for themselves on the Indian mathematical scenario even though they were
not directly associated with the post-graduate department.

The post-graduate department was set up in 1947. It was fortunate to have Professor
Ram Behari as its first head. Prof. Ram Behari was an eminent mathematician who specialised
in the important field of Differential Geometry. He can be credited with having started the tradition
of research in Differential Geometry, one of the first disciplines in pure mathematics to have been
pursued in the department. He guided a number of research scholars and established the high
traditions of teaching in the department. During his tenure, in 1957, the department also initiated an
M.A./M.Sc. program in Mathematical Statistics and the department was designated as the
Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics.

In 1962, the department was given a formidable push when a distinguished mathematician,
Prof. R.S.Verma, assumed the responsibilities of the head. It was entirely due to his dynamism
and academic breadth that research activities in the department blossomed in several directions
such as Operational Research, Information Theory, Coding Theory, Space Dynamics and in Complex Analysis.
The first masters program in Operational Research in the country was started in this department under his leadership.
This was even before any university in the U.K. and in several other advanced countries had done so.
Since the activities and the courses in the department were now so wide and varied the department was
enlarged into the Faculty of Mathematics at the initiative of Professor R.S.Verma.

<h2 id="dpt3"><u> Department of Biology </u> </h2>
The Department of Biology at the University of Oregon offers expertise and research opportunities in a wide
range of disciplines including neuroscience, genetics, cell and developmental biology, evolution, ecology, and
marine biology. Our undergraduate curriculum provides an introductory overview into each of these areas and
provides the opportunity for advanced training and specialization in particular areas through course work and
research experience.

The research activities of the department are centered in four separate research institutes, found in the menu above.
These Institutes bring faculty from Biology and other departments with biological interests into contiguous lab space.
Interested graduate applicants should view each Institute’s web site for an overview of the kind of research conducted,
and to contact particular faculty. The University supports interdepartmental connections among Biology, Chemistry,
Physics, Psychology, and Human Physiology.

<h2 id="dpt4"><u> Department of Chemistry </u> </h2>
The chemistry teaching started in 1922 with three constituent colleges St. Stephens, Hindu and Ramjas.
The chemistry teaching was confined to a two year course for B. Sc. degree department and the teaching up to
I.Sc. Level was conducted in the constituent colleges of the University. In October 1933, the University Offices and
library shifted to the Viceregal Lodge Estate and the chemistry department made an inconspicuous beginning in the
Viceregal kitchen which was used for conducting the lectures and practical classes. In 1942, New laboratories and
lecture rooms were constructed and visionary faculty members were invited by special efforts of illustrious Vice
Chancellor, Sir Maurice Gwyer.

In June 1949, Professor TR Seshadri took over as head of the department and owing to his untiring effort, the research
activities gradually increased, and the department attained formidable reputation in the international scene as one of the
finest schools of chemistry. In 1963, the University Grants Commission recognized the department of chemistry as a
of Advanced Study for the Chemistry of Natural Products. In 1965, the department of chemistry was recognized as
a of Advanced Study in Chemistry.

<h2 id="dpt5"><u> Department of English </u> </h2>
The Department of English
Has the same year of inception as the University of Delhi, 1922. The Department offers degrees
at MA, MPhil and PhD levels and oversees undergraduate teaching at the 79 Colleges which are affiliated to
the University. From 1970 the Department began functioning from two campuses: the main Campus at the Arts
Faculty, North Delhi. Students also enroll at the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board for the MA degree.
We provide intensive mentoring to our students both in and beyond the classroom in a wide variety of forums.
Ongoing lectures, film screenings, symposia, conferences, and colloquia on interdisciplinary themes make up our calendar.

<h2> About the Department </h2>

    The department was established during the inception of the institute in 1995 as
   the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). Since its
   commencement, the primary objective of the department has been to impart quality
   education, training and research at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral
   levels in various areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering with broad emphasis
   on design aspects of electronic systems.
