Managers can help in coping up with stress as follows :
- Communicate:
The managers should communicate with their employees, to understand their point of stress, when the employee feels that the manager is concerned about him, the employee will tend to feel wanted in the organisation.
Provide Solutions:
Once the manager is listened to the employees issues carefully, the manager should understand the situation well and provide solutions for the same, this will help the employee gain clarity, but let the implementation be on the employee's discretion.
Give Space:
The manager should give some space and time to the employee to cope up with the stress, he should not be behind the employee to forget everything and just work, they should give them some time for the same.
Work and Family stressors:
Work stressors includes deadlines, peer pressure, over-burden of work, comparison with other employees, lack of skills or abilities for a particular job, ineffective communication, not recieving appreciation for a job well done. Where are family stressors include not giving enough time to family, illness if a family member, death of a near one, trouble family relationships, unsound past of the family.
Now, challenge stressors in work stressors are meeting dead lines, over-burden of work etc, and the hindrance stressors are ineffective communication, non-appreciation etc.
For example: a specific job is to be completed in a week which takes about 2 weeks to complete, this is a challenge, but when the information is not passed time to time, decisions are not made swiftly are known as hinderances.
Family stressors have challenge stressors such as illness or death of an family member, relationship issues in the family etc, but hinderances here can be not trying to get out of the situation, not getting enough support or motivation to get out of it etc.
For example: the an employee's mother passed away, this is a challenge for the employee, now his team can support him by giving him some time to recover, but continuously reminding him of the loss can cause hinderances in his overcoming the stress.
These stressors trouble a person and demotivated employees, it is important for the organisation to take care of these stressors by understanding the change in behaviour and working of the employees on regular basis.
Organisation can do the following:
- maintain a healthy environment in the organisation, so that the employees Communicate their stressors freely.
- provide train sessions on mental health, and self transformation, so they know how to handle stress and improve themselves.
- the human resources team and the managers should collectively, understand the behaviours of employees, and should have an eye in case of any changes.
Example of removing stress from a manager's prespective:
Suppouse an employee under you is not being able to perform his duties well since a past few days, which generally go smoothly, then firstly talk to him what is the issue, suppose he says there are regular arguments in his family because he is not able to give them time. Try to find a solution to this by discussing tasks in his hand, and how he can schedule his tasks and finish them off quickly may be by multi-tasking wutjowi compromising on quality, and leaving the office on time with the satisfaction to work done.
