Question

1)What is the most important benefit you believe students get from the use of multimedia/hypermedia in education?

2)List each step in the multimedia development process, and describe a learning benefit for each step

3)Which of the multimedia/hypermedia formats do you think would be most useful for creating a professional teaching portfolio: hypermedia software, presentation software, video production software, hypermedia authoring, virtual reality systems

Please explain briefly in your own words?

Explanation / Answer

Let Start with introduction of Multimedia and Hypermedia :

Basically the difference between these two are :

Multimedia means : combination of media, it can be picture, video, gif etc or combination of any of these.

Hypermedia means : also called linked media, as the name suggest it is items of information whose meanings were connected but stored in different places.

> benefits of multimedia/hypermedia in education:

   1. Motivation: Hypermedia programs enjoy using them as it is interactive and eye catchy. Students who usually struggle to complete a project or term paper often will tackle a hypermedia project enthusiastically.

   2. Flexibility: Hypermedia programs has many tools that students love to use.

   3. Development of creative and critical thinking skills: The tremendous access to hypertext and hypermedia tools opens up a multitude of creative avenues.

   4. Improved writing and process skills: how to organise and show information and a new insight into writing, students now see it as chunks of information to be linked.

MULTIMEDIA DEVELOPMENT PROCESS:

Development Cycle consist of following steps:

   1.   Determine project goals

   2.   Develop work scope

   3.   Assess system requirements

   4.   Design the system

   5.   Develop the system

   6.   Test

   7.   Deliver

Lets discuss one by one

   a) Determine Project Goals

In this a one-page summary of the project should provide the reader a big picture.

In this we look into who is the product aimed at, user advantage, usability

   b) Develop Work Scope

In the work scope, you need to specify Schedule, staffing and the budget

   c) Assess System Requirements

The first step in any application development is an assessment of technical requirement, task analysis, client requirement

   c.1) Technical requirements

These generally translate to restrictions that will help guide your design, including low-end system specs

   c.2) Market or client requirements

In this we have education background , language, cultural preference.Applications that are easy to learn are more likely to attract a wider audience. Take advantage of your users' considerable knowledge and experience

   d) Design the System

Several different types of design, undertaken by different designers/teams, go into a multimedia product. It includes interface design and functional design

   e) Develop the system

It includes creating the user interface, Editing content and writing code

   f) Test

It includes unit testing, system testing ,interface testing

   g) Deliver

In this phase delivery is done

       h) Support

In this level it provide support for Maintain system, adding new feature and bug fixing

I believe video production software is most useful as video editing systems are what word processing is to text. Schools across the country are beginning to use these systems to produce school news programs and to develop digitised video for use in authoring hypermedia products. The main purpose of these software systems is to take video into a computer from a source ,which allows it to be combined with special effects and edited and voice-over audio. It also allows the resulting digitised video clips to be inserted in a multimedia package or uploaded to the Internet. So it is very useful.
