In Larry Lessig’s book the code he presents his argument that to protect our freedom over the internet, we must take measures ourselves because the intervention of government or any organization would result in us losing our freedom of speech and anonymity. Therefore, encryption of data goes against his argument because the organization has control over it, and, any regulated data is a threat to our liberty. We do not have the freedom to view this data and unlike something that is open source and its code is out there, encrypted technologies are not transparent and goes against our right to information and knowledge.
