Question

1. (a) Routing is performed in the domain shown in figure Ql using OSPF in multi areas configuration. The links in solid line, between routers R1, R2, R3 and network N1, belong to Area 0, and the links in dashed line, between routers R3, R4, R5 and network N2, belong to Area (i Define what information router R4 would advertise in its Router Links LSA [4 marks] Identify a key difference that could be observed between the Router Links [3 marks] (ii) Database in routers R1 and R3. ) What information will be available to router R5 to find a route to Network NI? [3 marks] R5 R1 R3 R4 N1 R2

Explanation / Answer

1) Information that R4 router contains if it is in LSA i.e., Link State Advertisments:

R4 contains Peer to Peer connection with R3 and R5 router.

Contains the IP address of Peer Nodes, Transient Network and Subnet Number and subnet mask of Area1 stub network.

2) Difference between R1 and R3:

Differences are R1 works in local router and limits to R3.

R3 is globally assigned works for N11 and N2. R3 acts as intermediate router for both areas.

3) Information available to R5 for N1:

Information avaialbe to R5 for reaching N1 is about R3.

R3 is an intermediate router for N1 and N2. R3 open path to send data to N1 via R1 or R3.
