Question
An increase in the enrollment to the Computer Science Department at S&T; University has caused a need for a more timely process to advise students. Currently folders are created for students once they have been accepted into the university and have declared computer information systems or computer science as their major. Before meeting the advisor, students must be given their folder and fill out a contact sheet. Students sit down with their advisor and look up classes to take to come up with a schedule for each semester. Because of the significant increase in enrollment, the time it takes to complete the advisement process has also greatly increased. S&T; Advisement Coordinators, Ms Elloise Tatum, and Ms. Barbara Troy who are not technically savy) are requesting an effective solution to reduce the time it takes for the advisement process. Design a high fidelit prototype that will introduce a system to Ms. Elloise to help her how they system you had deigned will address her advising issues.Explanation / Answer
Prototype outline:
Requirement/ Objective:
To streamline and improve speed of the advisement process for university graduates.
Current System:
Folders are created for students once they have been accepted into the university and have declared computer information systems or computer science as their major. Before meeting the advisor, students must be given their folder and fill out contact sheet. Student sit down with their advisor and look up the classes for each semester.
Proposed system:
Online University Advisement Tool(UAT)
Discussion on proposed system:
We can use the data above to compute the allotment in sequential manner as the students enroll. System will already be knowing the total values across the subjects, classes and max student count it can compute and distribute the data and lay out a matrix for the student to select from. As the seats fill in the system will keep track of that.
The offline system was dependent on some sort of first come, first serve basis with limited seats for each subject each semester anyway. Now we are simply delegating this process to some online system where students can look up to current state and select the subjects, classes with least manual intervention. From the regulations stand point we can keep a manual verification at the end of the process.
