An example of the items purchased by Walmart is Vlasic's pickles that was considered as a premium product by its customers before it was sold at Walmart at throwaway prices. By pricing the 12 pound jars at below $3, the giant retailer practically undid all efforts of the company that spent years to build a premium brand and justify the customers of the premium charged for it b the company. Furthermore, the company found it extremely difficult to meet the supply, that was caused by a buying spree that followed its everyday low price of $3 or below. It distorted the operations and finances of the company.

The giant retailer did not make any changes to the product or its composition. Rather it forced the company to make it sell to the customers at throwaway prices to simply attract more customers at Walmart and building its brand value among those who got a quality product at a steal, of course, at the expenses of Vlasic's brand value and its feasibility to sell huge volumes, thereby its profitability.
