Determine whether goal or data driven or bidirectional search would be preferable for solving each of the following problems. Justify your answer.

a.)you have met a person who claims to be your distant cousin, with a common ancestor named john smith. you would like to verify her claim.

b.)another person claims to be your distant cousin. he does not know the common ancestors name but knows that it was no more than eight generations back. you would like to either find this ancestor or determine that the person did not exist.

c.) diagnosing mechanical problems in an automobile.

d.)classify animals by characters, species, genus, etc

Explanation / Answer

A) Use bidirectional search. First start search the john smith ancestors. Then start search yours and your alleged cousins ancestors. Then you will know the connection between both if any common.

B) This will be goal driven. You have to trace the common ancestors if any in this case develop ancestors trace tree of both the people then serch for the common ancestors. Then we might know that person is real cousin or not.

C) This is goal driven. In this we search by applying data with specific goal of knowing working or non working status of automobile.

D) This will be data driven. We can classify those with the data driven approach since there are too many possible goals we need to check.
