Emergency and disaster preparedness are topics of increasing importance to all healthcare organizations. A midsize hospital along Florida's Atlantic cost wants to establish a comprehensive plan for responding to natural disasters and other major emergencies within its organization, as well as within surrounding communities, the state of Florida, and the Atlantic coast. What internal constituents need to be involved? What external organizations/agencies should be involved? How should the hospital organize all the various internal and/or external parties into teams? What sorts of team structures should the hospital put in place to achieve these goals? Remember, they need to organize themselves (internal) AND develop a structure to coordinate with the community (internal with external)! Your answer must identify a specific organizational structure (functional, divisional, matrix) and must identify which internal and external people and organizations should be involved. In other words, based on your original post, I should have the details necessary to draw a chart resembling the Figures presented in Chapter 3.

according to the given study, A mid size hospital is situated along side Florida's Atlantic cost wants to prepare a comprehensive plan means a plan which covers all the aspects of any situation to respond any disaster.being along side a cost in florida there may be possibility of natural disasters like earthquakes,flood etc.so, all the healthcare facility should prepare a plan in advance to respond those disasters & save the internal structure as well as outside coummunity of florida.The plan must include & answer the following quetions as below-

* INTERNAL CONSTITUENTS NEED TO BE INVOLVED-

TO make a plan for any disaster preparedness,hospital should have all the internal support for that.

*support of the all doctors in that hospital should be involved while preparing for any disaster(internal or external).

*support of administrative staffs like nurses, ward boys etc should not be ingnored.

*A proper trainning in that matter should be given for any possible situtation in the future.disaster could be internal like bomb,laboratory experiment accident or external like flood,terrorist attacks,earthquakes etc.

*maintain the quality service in any situation.

* external organizations/agencies should be involved-

it is not all upto the hospital to prepare for any disastreous situation but external agencies or institutions should also be responsible for to support the hospital.these external organizations could be- STATE FEDRAL AGENCIES,

FLORIDA COOPERATIVE COMMUNITIES,

NON GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS(NGOs),

GOVERNMENT ITSELF.

*Organization of Internal & External Parties Into Teams-

INTERNAL parties are-

EXTERNAL parties are-

the hospital should organize them in simple manner so that everyone can know what they have to do if any disaster occur.

eg. doctors should check all the opertatioanl work for the injured in the disaster,

wardboys & nurses should do all the supporting & administrative works.

police dept. should help the injured to reach the hospital in time.

govt. should provide all the financial & basic support like food, shelter etc.

* TEAM STRUCTURES MADE BY HOSPITAL TO ACHIEVE GOALS-

the hospital should create a simple team structure of 3 to 4 persons. each directed by a high authority like head doctors or specialist. so that when the disaster ouccrs then team would whom they have to listen & report. to much complexity will only make the situation worse.

*INTERNAL ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE-

Being a mid size hospital in florida the expected structure should be functionl beacuse in a hospital director or manager can not do the work of a doctor or any specialist.in every department a specialist in that field should be placed. divisional & matrix strucute would be for those organization which is big in chain of command on the basis of region, state, counrty etc.

*Coordination of internals with externals-

As i said above disaster problem can not be solved by the internal structure of the hospital but outside communities should participate in that too.

govt. bodies should finance the hospitals for any trainning or emergency like power surge.

police dept. should provide extra manpower support in the time of disaster.
