Question

%% Problem 3.14ab

gcan be 3.14 Consider the building from the previous exercise. (a) If it is 200 feet tall and you are 20 feet away, at what angle from the ground will you have to tilt your head to see the top of the building? (For simplicity assume that your head is even with the ground.) (b) How far is it from your head to the top of the building? (c) Challenge: Repeat parts a and b assuming your head is NOT even with the ground, but is 6 feet above ground level height h | angle distance.………….. distance d

Explanation / Answer

a)tan x=p/b let x be the angle at which the head tilts

tanx=200/20

x=tan^-1(10)

x=84.2 degrees

sinx=200/H

sin(84.2)=200/h

0.994=200/h

h=200/0.994

h=201.20ft

hence the angle is 84.2 degrees

and the distance of top from the head is 201.20 ft.(h)
