You have just been promoted to be the supervisor for about 15 people. You are younger than all of the people in the office and you are the only one with a college degree. The current situation is that the office operates in a very inefficient manner because the staff did not know what was expected of them. You have been asked to get the office operating efficiently again. This will require work because people are late to work, do not complete projects on time, spend a lot of time on the phone for personal reasons, etc.

How you would go about changing the environment of the office and the attitude of the employees?

What suggestions do you have to motivate the employees to perform to their highest abilities?

How do you think your age might affect your ability to lead this group through change? How might you manage any issues that come up about your age?

first i call all the people and conducts meating, by expressing what the management is expecting from them. the kind of work they need to perform, the kind of benefits and facilities which are going to be enjoy, what kind of growth is ahead and so on. once i disclose all the facts, next i express how i am going to help them to reach their professional and personal goals. i will inform them it is our firm, if we did well, we are going to be benefited, if not we are going to be suffered.

being a 15 member team, we have sufficient time to know each other, understand each other and we can plan the work based on interest, abilities, and expertise. i divide the people as small teams, and assigned works to each team. the team leader is responsible for the work and accountable to that. being individual we may carry some limitations at the work, but if works in teams, it always give a cutting edge to all. next i will focus on the time pass activities at the work by the employees, give them small breaks at the work, like 10 minutes break for each two hours work, of course luch break is common for all. if we waste our time, indirectly we wasting our productivity and minimizing the total production of the firm.

of course, age matters alot. most of they may think that, i may be an youngstar, so do not know nothing. even known something, that is inferior than them. but it is not true, the people who are more experienced or aged, may not always carries right attitudes and right behavior. so, here, to me, age factor is not at all material. it is all about what you are, how you represent yourself at the place. i resemble the same to them and i definitely succeed in the process.
