Explanation / Answer

ANSWERS:

a) The duration takes for a customer to get through the entire process at step B3-a, B4 and B7 is 62 minutes.         Explanation: B1 (10) + B2 (8) + B3-a (15) + B4 (20) + B7 (9) = 62 minutes.

   The duration takes for a customer to get through the entire process at step B3-b, B5, B6 & B7 is 52 minutes.         Explanation: B1 (10) + B2 (8) + B3-b (10) + B5 (10) + B6 (5) + B7 (9) = 52 minutes.

b) The single bottleneck for the entire process is Activity B4.

Explanation: Activity B4 only requires the longest duration for completion in the entire process.

c) Total number of customers that can be served is Forty Two (42) People.

Explanation: As explained for question (a), the duration taken per customer at step B3-a, B4 and B7 i is 62 minutes and B3-b, B5, B6 & B7 is 52 minutes. The difference in duration between the two flows is 10 minutes. As said ,the total business operation is 8 hour schedule and since the minimum time required for a customer is 52minutes the last customer can be taken 52 minutes prior, so we can say effective hours is 7 hours & 8 minutes. So, the capacity per hour is 6 customers (60/10) and for 7 hours it is 42 customers (7x6).
