Explanation / Answer

Training involves imparting an employee some critical skills that are necessary to perform a task. These skills are usually provided before he /she is put on actual job. Development is a long process that involves preparing the employee to take future challenges of the organization by augmenting his /her skills and creating a career path, so he /she can continue to contribute more to the success of the organization. They are similar in nature because the process of imparting the knowledge or skills is the same, but in former case, the purpose is immediate, short term goals, while the later is a slow, continuous porcess with long term goals.

Hospitality industry is a specific example where T&D can bring about very good results in increasing employee motivation and engagement. As the industry is service oriented, every day comes with a new challenge and an opportunity to live upto the expectations of the customer and perform. With efficient and continuous training, which is a must for customer facing roles, an employee continues to receive accolades from the guests as well as from superiors, motivating him to perform even better, making him / her more productive. Happy, performing and motivated employee make for a better performing organization that grows ahead of competition resulting in sustainable growth.
