Question

Hands-on Projects Project 10-1: Calculate Subnets six subnets. h In this you a private network into the steps this project, you work with a Class B private network. Complete as Enter HANDS-ON PROJECTS. follows: the task 1. Your is opening a new location, and the IT director has assigned you you need calculating the for new LAN. You've determined that How 50 subnets for the Class B network beginning with the network ID 172.20.0.0. many host bits will you need to use for network information in the new subnets? 2. After the subnetting is complete, how many unused subnets will be waiting on hold for future expansion, and how many possible hosts can each subnet contain?

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

1)

So for class B 16 bits can be used as host bits and total number of hosts can be 65534

So, if we want these host bits to break into 50 subnets, 6 host bits will be enough as host bits.

How ?, 6 bits can be used to show 63 subnets.

2)

After subnetting 13 subnets will be waiting on hold. and number of hosts for each subnet can be the remaining bits.

So from 16, 6 is taken to show subnet ID so the rest 10 will be used as host ID so 2^10= 1024 hosts can be there in each subnet.

3)

So the Subnet mask will be

11111111.11111111.11111100.00000000

The new subnet mast is 255.255.252.0

I hope this helps. Don't forget to give a thumbs up if you like this.
