Question

Most loyal employees want to comply with the security policies their organizations define, yet they may feel forced to violate those policies to satisfy their work requirements. Describe a scenario where an employee might compromise a security policy in order to perform a particular job function. Examples of common security policies that may not always be possible to comply with include sharing passwords with coworkers, leaving a computer logged in while the employee is away from the desk, connecting computers to the company network without the latest antivirus software, and providing system access information over the phone or through email without proof of identity by the requester.

Explanation / Answer

Scenario:

Suppose in an organization, There is one Printer Server by which all the local printing processes are executed. There is only one person responsible for the Administrative processes of that server. Only he is having the access to that server. As this is a printing service, it should be available 24 hour. And the Admin cannot access that server remotely.

Now one day at around midnight, some issues has been raised against that server and the server stopped responding. That person who is the Admin is unable to come to office to access that server from that organization internet. That time, to fix that issue that employee might need to compromise the security policy and he has to share the password to another employee who can actually restart the server to make that available for print.

Solution

To restrict these kind of compliance issues in future, that server should put in maintaenance every week and also there should be one additonal admin who will be working in different shifts.
