Question
Write a method called rmchars(), which is passed a String s and
a char c. The method returns a new String which is just like s,
but with any instance of the character c removed. For example,
if s is the String "Chips Movie", and c is ’i’, the method returns
the String "Chps Move". Do not do any input or output in your
method, i.e., there should be no System.out.println() or use of
Scanner in your method. Please make sure that the method can read a string that has multiple words.
Solved:
public class TestingDifferentStuff {
public static String rmchars(String s, char c) {
String b = Character.toString(c);
String d = s.replaceAll(b, "");
return d ;
}
public static void main(String args[]) {
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
String s = in.nextLine(); // my mistake was that I was using in.next(), which was not reading the rest of my string after a space.
char c = 'b'; //whatever char you want
System.out.println(rmchars(s, c));
}
}
Explanation / Answer
TestingDifferentStuff.java
import java.util.Scanner;
public class TestingDifferentStuff {
public static String rmchars(String s, char c) {
String b = Character.toString(c);
String d = s.replaceAll(b, "");
return d ;
}
public static void main(String args[]) {
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.println("Enter the string: ");
String s = in.nextLine(); // my mistake was that I was using in.next(), which was not reading the rest of my string after a space.
System.out.println("Enter the character: ");
char c = in.next().charAt(0); //whatever char you want
System.out.println(rmchars(s, c));
}
}
Output:
Enter the string:
Chips Movie
Enter the character:
i
Chps Move
