Explanation / Answer

Multi factor Authentication

This is a way of authenticating yourself which a minimum of two access control methods.

It falls into three categories:

Something you Know - PIN, Password
Something you have - card, phone
Something you are - eg.fingerprint, retina scan

People assume mutlti factor authentication is hard to use as there will be another add on to your login process. Extra Security will come with extra time people need to spend for their login process. It is not conveinent for the people and usually cause an extra pain. Hence, most of the people don't have the will to put in some extra efforts for the same.

If we take an example of multi factor authentication using phone - the phone must be carried along everywhere it should not run out of battery, network should be available as and when needed. Personal numbers needs to be provided which will in a way hamper personal privacy and make it susceptible to spams.Hackers have the potential to clone the sim and get access to the data in your mobile phones. People these days have all accounts logged in in their phones or atleast the cache memory saves it all which may results into a breach. Talking about text messages - they are not so secure and can be easily intercepted - many a times it happens text messages are not delivered instantly and a long delay is faced by users to login into their account. These problems may be faced by one of the authorized users and a person thinks if he is the legitimate authorized user why should he face such a delay in logging in.

Also, the limit login attempts per IP address or in some cases per account as when attackers try and access others accounts they may use a large variety of IP address for access to the accounts.

A proper information security training/sessions are required to make awareness among people why to implement and use multi factor authentication. We need to make people aware of-

Multi factor authentication wont be susceptible to common threats.

Multi factor authentication may be annoying but it will make you a way more secure in the long run.

Multi factor authentication will always prompt you as soon as any unauthorized user trys to login into your account.
