Explanation / Answer

Problems had the YIOULA Group’s stand-alone legacy software created for the company are:

Needs the cost comparison module.

Needs conversion of single enterprise package.

want to supported many languages.

Enhance market leadership and want to business grow.

The advantages of ERP systems over standalone software packages are:

Ease of integration: ERP software facilitates enterprise-wide integrated information system covering every organisational functional area such as accounts, human resources, sales and distribution, marketing, manufacturing among others. A standalone business application is limited to a specific functional area, say if it is an accounting function, the application does not seamlessly integrate with other functional areas.

Flexibility: organisations deploy ERP software to enhance coordination among various business entities within the same firm as well as business partners. Due to their inflexibility, standalone business applications are not able to go beyond the specific entities in which they are used.

Cost effectiveness: ERP software deployment is cost-effective since the software is modular and an organisation can choose the specific modules that are appropriate to the organisation and in case of future additions, the cost of additional modules cannot be commensurate to setting up a standalone business application when needs arise.

Ease of Communication: Most ERP systems come with enhanced communication facilities to enable ease of communication. On the other hand, a standalone business application does not support communication with other organisational entities and in case a report is generated, it cannot be shared unless it is printed or emailed.

Immediate and long-term needs did Enterprise-One fill for the YIOULA Group are:

Softcon added other languages that YIOULA group needed that interface,

Also added cost comparison module from softcon to the Enterprise-One package,

Conversion to a single enterprise package provide expected benefits such as delivery time, cost collection etc.

Manage inventory most effeciently,

Oracle's JD Edwards Enterprise-One is a key to grow the business.

The advantages and disadvantages of general ERP systems and industry specific systems are:

Advantages:

Complete visibility into all the important processes, across various departments of an organization,

A unified and single reporting system to analyze the statistics/status etc. in real-time, across all functions/departments,

Since same (ERP) software is now used across all departments, individual departments having to buy and maintain their own software systems is no longer necessary.

Advanced e-commerce integration is possible with ERP systems – most of them can handle web-based order tracking/ processing.

Since a Database system is implemented on the backend to store all the information required by the ERP system, it enables centralized storage/back-up of all enterprise data.

Disadvantages:

The cost of ERP Software, planning, customization, configuration, testing, implementation, etc. is too high.

ERP deployments are highly time-consuming – projects may take 1-3 years (or more) to get completed and fully functional.

Too little customization may not integrate the ERP system with the business process & too much customization may slow down the project and make it difficult to upgrade.

The cost savings/payback may not be realized immediately after the ERP implementation & it is quite difficult to measure the same.
