a) Plot sunspots vs time, to make sure you are extracting data correctly.
b) For each week of the year take averages of the number of sunspots. Also calculate
variance for each, and so error bars. [Plot this, with error bars. Along with the average
weekly number .] Are you roughy 68% of the time within error bars? That said, the
Gaussian error bars don't strictly apply because this is Poisson distributed data (large
number of random attempts).
c) Plot the histogram of how many sunspots are seen on average on a given week (i.e.
how many weeks have n = 0, how many n = 1, etc...).
d) Can you spot the e ects of leap years? Discuss this and any other e ects or features
you see in your plots.
