Question
There are several types of Multiplexing. What distinguishes Frequency Division Multiplexing What Division Multiplexing What distinguishes Wave Division Multiplexing If you were buying a multiplexer, why would you choose either a FDM or TDM? Layer Two: controls access and handles errors. Describe three access control methodologies. Describe the techniques in Layer 2 that Prevent errors. Describe the methods in Layer 2 that Control errors. Describe three Layer 2 Error Detection methods Draw how a series of FOUR separate messages would be successfully sent from one computer to another using ARQ if: the first message was transmitted without error the second message was initially transmitted with an error the third message was initially lost and the ACK for the fourth message was initially lost. You have downloaded a number of Word and PowerPoint files from D2L. Assuming that the next file you will download is 3.4Mb, how long would it take using the following circuits? Also assume that control characters and management overhead adds a total of an extra 10% to the message. Dial up modem at 33.6 Kbps Cable modem at 384 Kbps T-1 line at 1.5 Mbps Create a table for the OSI protocol stack listing: Layer Number Layer Name Layer Functions in detail Layer Sample Protocol(s) Layer Name for its "chunk of data" if applicableExplanation / Answer
C)
Multiplexing is a step by step process that allows multiple signals from multiple sources to havecommon communication channel. That is a single channel that is used by different signal sources to send their signals.
The types of multiplexing are:-
(a) TDM (Time Division Multiplexing
(b) FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing)
(c) WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing)
(d) CDM (Code Division Multiplexing
TDM: In TDM signals gets separated in time domain. Signals coming from many sources are made to flow through the common line one at a time for fixed time. lets say there are 5 different signal sources, then each signal source shall be be allowed to use the line for a period t. After the initial setup of all signal sources transmitting for period t is done , the first one again get chance and so on.
FDM: In FDM signals gets separated in frequency domain. Signal from each source gets modulated to different frequency wherein the frequency spectrum after modulation will not overlap. At receiving end, signals gets demodulated.
Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) is a method which combines multiple signals at laser beams under several infared (IR) wavelengths used for transmitting through fiber optic media. Each laser shall be modulated by an independent set of signals. Wavelength-sensitive filters, the IR analog of visible-light color filters, are applied at the receiving end.
One needs to use frequency division multiplexing.since it is cheaper and fastest mode of communication as compared to time division multiplexing. The frequency can be adjusted as per the distance needed to be covered for making communications.
