Suppose a multiprocessor system has p homogeneous (equal capability) processors. The OS supports many-to-many multi-threading by providing up to p kernel threads for an application. Suppose a multi-threaded application with u long-running threads is running on the system. Assuming that is the only process on the system, discuss whether 100% processor utilization is always guaranteed during execution of the application if it’s known that u > p
Explanation / Answer
A thread is known as a light-weight method where as Process is significant weight or resource intensive. So, thread takes lesser resources. So the 100% processor utilization is always guaranteed during execution of the application if it’s known that u > p because Threads represent a computer code approach to up performance of OS by reducing the overhead thread is comparable to a classical method.
