Business Law
1. Read the following scenario and answer the question in 5-10 sentences
You are the vice president of a computer sales company. You could save significant money by firing one of two employees who service the northwest region: Gary and Brenda. Gary is a long-time employee with an excellent sales record and a forceful demeanor. You and Gary have conflicted in the past, however, when you rejected a request for a significant raise from Gary. Brenda has been struggling with her sales quotas lately, but is very popular amongst her co-workers. She has also been a quiet confidant for key sales decisions. Evaluate whether you should layoff Brenda, Gary, or neither employee, and give the reasons for your decision.
Explanation / Answer
Ans: When it comes to job and professional workplace , personal relationship and popularity hardly matter. Gary might having a concflict with the Vice President but he is good at what he does and bringing revenue having a sales record. I would not recommend laying off Gary at this point. Brenda is good and popular but she is clearly not good when it comes to her job . She may be popular but there are many people we have seen in past who climbed up in the ladder of their career simply because of their prsonal rapport and not by their talent. We would recomment the VP to lay off Brenda as it will also benefit the company.
